Battle of the boards: Two Vancouver restaurants fight to have the 'best deal in the city'

Local taco shops have duelling deals

A bit of friendly competition is taking place on the streets of Vancouver between taco restaurants.

We all love a good deal and in the world of food, those don't come around very often. Just look at grocery prices.

So when a Vancouver taco restaurant put out a sandwich board advertising the "best deal in the city," (three tacos and a pop for $23.99) it drew quite a bit of attention from locals - while also raising a few eyebrows.

Not everyone was convinced that it was a deal at all.

"I thought this was Los Angeles and I'm surprised to learn this is in Vancouver," says one commenter about La Taqueria's board. "Those are New York prices," responds another.

The taco shop has six locations across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver and a taco truck parked on Georgia and Howe streets, which is where the sandwich board was placed.

The sign caught the attention of another local restaurant, Vegetarian eatery Budgies Burritos, which put other their own sandwich board with the same "best deal in the city" (three tacos and a pop) but priced at $15.25.

Now it's worth noting that the Budgies tacos won't have any meat in them which surely helps to keep the cost down but we're not complaining. A bit of friendly competition among Vancouver restaurants can only benefit us diners feeling the pinch.
