Side Hustle Sandwiches launched in May 2020 as a "side hustle" for Eight 1/2 restaurant in Mount Pleasant. The sandwich shop will close down at the end of January 2023

A true product of the pandemic and an emblem of the creativity the challenging times inspired, a Mount Pleasant sandwich shop has revealed it will wind down operations in a few weeks.

Side Hustle was launched in May 2020 as a true "side hustle" venture of Eight 1/2 restaurant on 8th at Main. Leaning into the appeal of take-out and restrictions on dine-in, the venture was established to typify its moniker, running like a concession window and offering delivery. Ultimately, the shop was able to open up to dine-in, too.

Known for its menu of hearty sandwiches with playful names (like the Dr. Bahn Mi Henry), Side Hustle's operator shared on social media that the time has come to shut things down.

"It’s with a heavy heart I have to announce we’ll be closing our doors at the end of January 2023," reads the announcement, which goes on to offer extensive thanks and appreciation to all those who have contributed to Side Hustle's over two years of operation.

There remains a little more time to get a taste of Side Hustle. The sandwich shop at 151 E 8th Ave is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
