Watch: Inside downtown Vancouver's new modern steakhouse restaurant

Talk about a "prime" location!

Vancouver has a brand-new steakhouse in a prime downtown location.

Chop Steakhouse + Bar, the first outpost of the national chain to be situated within the city of Vancouver proper, opened its doors to its Coal Harbour location on Nov. 30.

The location's franchisee, Andy Ahluwalia, comes from Chop's only other B.C. restaurant, in Richmond, where he served as the General Manager and then Operating Partner.

Ahluwalia says Chop's new Coal Harbour location, which is adjacent to the Vancouver Convention Centre West at #26-1055 Canada Place, was one he wanted to snap up immediately, as soon as former occupant Cafe Bellagio put the space on the market. While diners from Richmond's hotel-based Chop know its more traditional steakhouse atmosphere and its darker interior, expansive dining room, and lobby lounge, the Vancouver location was designed to be a more modern and bright beacon for locals and visitors alike.

With tons of natural light streaming in, multilevel dining areas, and a beautiful feature bar area, Chop Vancouver is positioned well to be a big draw.

What's on the menu at Chop in Vancouver

When it comes to food, guests can expect Chop's popular steakhouse menu along with some Coal Harbour exclusives, like a beautiful halibut dish. An offering of mussels and fries is also exclusive to the Vancouver location in the west and Halifax in the east.

"Being from Vancouver, I was thrilled to be able to curate a locally-influenced menu for Coal Harbour," notes Chop Executive Chef Stephen Clark.

Not surprisingly, Chop began in the land of Canadian beef - Alberta - with its first location in Edmonton in 2006.

The restaurant continues to offer 100 per cent Canadian beef, seasoned with its signature Old Chicago Steakhouse blend. Steaks cuts available as Smoked or Bone-In Rib-Eye, Filet Mignon, Flat Iron, Centre Cut New York, or Top Sirloin, and Chop has an array of add-on sauces, like Bearnaise, Peppercorn, or confit shallot and garlic - the latter perfect for spreading onto bites of meat cooked to the doneness of your liking.

Chop also does stellar Prime Rib, and also does steakhouse sides like decadent lobster-topped mac and cheese or crispy fries seasoned with porcini salt, a hint of truffle, garlic, and Grana Padano.

Take heart, as you can bring your plant-based friends to Chop; they have a filling loaded "Super Bowl" made with fresh greens, avocado, crispy chickpeas, candied pumpkin seeds, cauliflower rice, lime vinaigrette - you can add a grilled tofu "steak" to it, too.

However, if you've got a group of omnivores, you may prefer digging into starters like their massive beef dry ribs with chimichurri or their creamy mushroom and goat cheese dip.

While steakhouse prices may not fit everyone's budget, Chop has an approachable lineup of Happy Hour and Late Night eats and drinks that are more wallet-friendly, including options like Ahi Tuna Tataki, a half-portion beef dip sandwich, or a seven-ounce sirloin steak with their seasoned fries.
