A Vancouver man accused of sexually assaulting a woman has pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

Peter David Reimchen was accused of the initial charge in connection with an Oct. 9, 2022 incident.

Appearing via video before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Andrea Brownstone March 19, Reimchen pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge.

Brownstone ordered a pre-sentencing report and a psychological report and risk assessment.

Because Reimchen is Black, the judge also approved the creation of a racial and cultural assessment report.

Such reports are becoming more common in B.C.'s courts given the impact of racism experience by people of colour.

The case returns to court in North Vancouver July 22 for an update on progress in preparing reports. That date had initially been set for sentencing.
