A Vancouver man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his sister and was told to stay away from her has again been released on conditions mirroring his conditional sentence order.
The man, whose name cannot be published as it would identify the victim, appeared by video before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Gregory Rideout Dec. 29.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty on May 30, 2022 to the assault. Court records state the assault happened on April 20, 2021.
On Feb. 15, 2023, Judge Kathryn Denhoff gave the man a 15-month conditional sentence. That included a condition that he have no contact with his sister, including staying away from places she lives, works or worships.
Court documents alleged a Dec. 12 breach of that condition.
He was further ordered to register as a sex offender. He was also ordered to take the forensic sex offender program.
Court documents show he was in custody from April 2021 until the sentencing.
The documents also show he returned to court in May and June for a reason not detailed in documents.
A June 23 notation says "original sentence applies."
“No action — conditional sentence resumes,” the notation said.
The case returns to court Jan. 3.
