Nurses in B.C. are regulated by the College of Nurses and Midwives.

B.C.’s College of Nurses and Midwives has suspended a Kamloops nurse for five days after finding they withheld medications without justification and falsified records, among other issues.

A college inquiry committee panel found Amritpal Randhawa had also delegated tasks to unregulated care providers and failed to report medication incidents and update patient care plans accurately or at all.

The information was released in a July 8 public notice.

The college said professional and practice standards set expectations to ensure nurses are practicing competently, ethically, responsibly and safely.

“Nurses are accountable for their nursing decisions, actions, and professional conduct. Nurses must ensure that they meet these standards in providing care to patients,” the notice said.

Discipline for Randhawa includes a suspension of their registration for five days and a public reprimand for failing to adhere to college professional and practice standards.

Randhawa must also meet with a college standards and guidance consultant to discuss and create a plan to prevent similar conduct from occurring in the future.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will address the professional and practice concerns that arose and will protect the public,” the notice said.
