A man charged with second-degree murder in the Nov. 22 death of a Vancouver woman will have a preliminary hearing with dates in August and November.

Tenzin Choigey faces charges of murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of 26-year-old Roshnee Gurung and an attack on another person.

Choigey appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Deanne Gaffar on June 3 to confirm the dates.

He is represented by lawyer Jim Heller, who said the November date was needed for a pathologist to testify.

Preliminary hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exists to go to trial when a person has pleaded not guilty to a charge.

The is no indication in court documents that Choigey has entered a plea in the case.

He remains in custody and appeared before Gaffar via video from North Fraser Pretrial Centre.

The court has heard Choigey is a foreign national from Bhutan who may need an interpreter for the case.

On Nov. 24, the Vancouver Police Department said it was investigating what they described as a homicide that took place overnight at a residence in an area near Rupert Street and Euclid Avenue in East Vancouver.

Police said a woman was found dead at the scene, while an injured victim was taken to hospital.

Police said the 27-year-old male victim suffered serious injuries in the attack, resulting in the aggravated assault charge.
