Two B.C. hospitals and one long-term care facility are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks: Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, Penticton Regional Hospital and Cottonwoods in Kelowna.
The outbreak at Peace Arch Hospital occurred in an acute care setting and was declared on June 10.
The outbreak in Kelowna was declared on June 13 and the one in Penticton was on June 2.
The medical health officer or their official designate will declare an outbreak.
"An outbreak is declared when there is evidence of increased incidence or transmission of health care-associated cases of an infectious pathogen among admitted patients,” said Fraser Health.
Infection prevention and control will follow up with regular communication to the site and with guidance on outbreak control measures.
People who are visiting the locations will use hand hygiene stations when they enter and leave the facility.
If people are experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, flu-like symptoms, fever or a rash, they are asked not to visit.
Burnaby Hospital has had an influenza outbreak since June 11 while Richmond Hospital just lifted restrictions on June 16 after an influenza outbreak.
As of June 17, there are no current outbreaks at Northern Health or Island Health.
A list of the outbreaks can be viewed online. An outbreak will be removed from the list once it's over.
