A man found passed out in his vehicle in Surrey has died of his injuries, prompting police to cordon off the area in search of information.

Surrey RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are working together to interview people around the 8800-block of 127 Street. This is where first responders located the injured and unresponsive man.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, the man did not survive,” wrote a Surrey RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Vanessa Munn in a press release.

Cpl. Munn did not specify the nature of the man’s injuries, but said “criminality is believed to be a factor.”

Surrey RCMP said it is rerouting traffic in the area as police investigators try to identify the deceased man and what led to his death.

“Officers are interviewing witnesses and canvasing the area for further information and evidence,” wrote Cpl. Munn.

In a tweet Tuesday afternoon, IHIT said the scene is secured and there is no threat to public safety. The homicide unit is expected to provide more information to the public as it becomes available.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
