A Quadra Island man who contacted police to defend himself against complaints that he was driving his dirt bike erratically ended up being arrested on several outstanding warrants.

Quadra Island RCMP received a report May 22 of a man with a camera on his helmet driving a black off-road motorcycle on the south end of the island.

The file was included in the RCMP’s weekly media release and it got the attention of the dirt biker, who emailed police to say he was not driving recklessly and was upset about the allegations.

RCMP said the driver claimed that his uninsured motorcycle was always safely driven and he used it only for work.

In the email, the man provided his personal information. A police check later showed he had multiple warrants, including ones for assault with a weapon, spousal assault and public mischief.

While patrolling, RCMP located the man on his dirt bike and arrested him on the outstanding warrants.
