A Vancouver man is free with jail time-served after pleading guilty to twice assaulting the same man at their 1190 East Hastings residence.

Jorge Medina-Blanco assaulted the man once inside the building where they lived and again outside the next day with a weapon.

A Vancouver provincial court judge heard that, on Oct. 6, 2022, Medina-Blanco began knocking on the victim’s door. When the man opened it, Medina-Blanco began screaming the victim owed him rent money.

“The accused then struck (the victim) on the left ear with his fist,” Crown prosecutor Emily Adams told Judge Andrea Brownstone.

“The accused doesn’t own the building, nor is he responsible for collecting rent money,” Adams said.

Police arrived and Medina-Blanco was later released with an undertaking to stay away from the victim.

That night, police were again called for allegations Medina-Blanco had struck the man in the face with a large stick.

Adams said another resident arrived to assist.

“He was also struck in the face with a stick by Mr. Medina-Blanco,” Adams said.

She said Medina-Blanco then ran inside the building and a third man checked to see if he was causing problems.

The court heard that man was struck with a pipe.

Medina-Blanco remained in jail for 178 days after that, which is credited at 257 days. He also received a year of probation.

Adams stayed other charges against Medina-Blanco.
