Following the reinstatement of a mask mandate in all B.C. public indoor spaces, TransLink is following suit.
Shortly after provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced today (Aug. 24) masks would once again be required across the province, the public transit company says customers will also be required to wear masks beginning tomorrow (Aug. 25).
Masks are required while boarding or waiting for transit at any indoor or sheltered stations and stops.
"While the mandate is in effect beginning tomorrow, it will take some time for signage around the system to be updated," TransLink said in a news release.
"We thank our customers for their patience as we navigate this change."
Exemptions for the provincial mandate include:
- Anyone with an underlying medical condition or disability which inhibits the ability to wear a mask or face covering
- Persons unable to place or remove a mask or face covering without assistance
- Children under 12 years of age
- Employees working behind a physical barrier or within areas designated for employees and not for public access
- Police, employees or first responders in an emergency
