Back when Gassy Jack hung out on the opposing corner

Surely most of you know the history of "Gassy" Jack Deighton and why he has a statue in his honour in Gastown (read THIS if you don't). Erected in 1970, something most people don't know is that it was originally located across the street from Maple Tree Square where it stands now. He stood there for his first few years, staring up Water street as opposed to at the Hotel Europe. HERE is an archival video as proof, shot roughly from where Jack's perch is today.
