Lady Van

The R-class sloop Lady Van won the Lipton Cup Regatta, finally beating Seattle’s long-time champion Sir Tom. The Lady Van went on to win the cup again in 1934 (when this photo was taken), 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940. War ended this long-standing race between Seattle and Vancouver, and the Lady Van ended up derelict in Seattle. But, restored by the Boatbuilding Heritage Society of BC, the Lady Van raced again and won against Seattle’s restored Pirate in the resurrected 2010 Alexandra Cup.
