North Sand Ships

The keel of the SS Fort St. James was laid on March 23, 1941, launching the North Sands ships. Mass-production techniques quickly allowed efficiency to improve so that the last North Sands ship built, in 1943, took only three and a half months, compared with the nine months needed for the first ship.
