Stanley Cup Riot
In the late spring of 2011, as the Vancouver Canucks completed the best season in their 40-year history in the NHL, fans began savouring the possibility of the city’s first Stanley Cup championship since the Vancouver Millionaires swept the Ottawa Senators in 1915. Unfortunately, after the Canucks lose to the Boston Bruins in game seven of the Stanley Cup final, violence and looting erupted among the hopeful crowd. 150,000 fans swarmed the downtown core, casting a pall over the city.
