The Waterfront was a punk venue below a rooming house located at 686 Powell Street at Heatley when this film was made in the 1980s by Emily Carr student Cary Heuchert. At one time the building also served as the Bows and Arrows Hall for native longshoremen, which I blogged about a while back. After the liquor license was moved to Granville Street, the building sat derelict for years, but has recently been leased and will be renovated.

Here’s the description Cary wrote on YouTube:

A short film unseen for nearly 30 years, “The Waterfront” is a visual documentary from April 1984, directed by Cary Heuchert. The Waterfront was a nightclub located on Powell Street in Vancouver, Canada. During it’s early 1980’s heyday, many local and international bands such as The Enigmas, The Debutantes, and Alien Sex Fiend played there. The soundtrack music, “Daybreak” is an original classical guitar piece, written in late 1983, and performed specifically for this film. A new version of the song was recorded in 2011, for Cary’s 2012 album, “Nocturna and Other Stories”.
