This limited edition merch launch celebrates Vancouver's old basketball team and iconic Asian imagery.

Foo Hung Curious, the gift shop located inside the Chinatown Storytelling Centre, has just launched limited edition merchandise that will hit nostalgic Vancouver sports fans hard.

The "Lucky Grizz" collection by sports apparel brand Mitchell and Ness in collaboration with the Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association (CCYAA) and Chinatown Storytelling Centre, celebrates the history of the Asian Canadian community and sports in Vancouver by combining the iconic Lucky Cat with the city's dearly departed basketball team.

This is not the first time that this team has created Grizzlies merch.

Last year (2022), in honour of Lunar New Year, the CCYAA partnered with the Chinatown Storytelling Centre to sell four shirts, all featuring a version of the Vancouver Grizzlies logo called Boba Grizz.

The Lucky Grizz collection includes a black crewneck sweater, black long-sleeve shirt, teal T-shirt, and black T-shirt that features a Lucky Cat wearing a Grizzlies jersey.

The maneki-neko or 'beckoning cat' is a common Japanese figurine often believed to bring good luck to the owner and is found across Asia and in Chinatown storefronts around the world.

The collection launches Sunday, May 28, and is exclusive to Foo Hung Curious with all proceeds supporting the Chinatown Storytelling Centre.

To celebrate the launch, the store is having an event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday with former Juno Awards judge DJ Nina Mendoza performing. Slothee Coffee will also be there creating custom Lucky Cat latte art.
