Vancouver has no shortage of luxury clothing.
There is a lot of money in this city and a major hunger for designer pieces just take a walk along Alberni and the parade of Prada, DeBeers, Tory Burch, Burberry, and Gucci. The thing is, it's not entirely representative of the luxury market in this city as a whole.
There are other ways to access designers and luxury fashion that are more affordable and environmentally friendly. Luxury consignment and resell stores are surprisingly common here in Vancouver. There are the big names like Turnabout and Mine & Yours that have opened multiple locations or expanded from outside of B.C. but there are also smaller online businesses like Faulkner that are carving out their own niche and making waves on the international resell market.
Faulkner started as a storefront in Gastown in 2017 and is now an appointment-only studio and online retailer that took Vancouver's rainy days and fondness for Japanese aesthetics and developed a catalogue of archive Arc'teryx and Issey Miyake pieces, along with mainstays like Dries van Noten, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Prada.
This spring, they debuted Aplomb, an in-house brand of re-worked vintage clothing using materials already in circulation to further sustainability. And on July 21, they are launching a new collection with Grailed, an online menswear community marketplace specializing in streetwear and designer pieces.
This is the second collaboration between Faulkner and Grailed, which is essentially the Amazon of luxury menswear. Grailed functions as a peer-to-peer marketplace with one of the largest catalogues of luxury designer, streetwear, and archival fashion on the internet. Faulkner is their only Canadian featured seller.
The curated collection of deadstock and archive Arc'teryx is being called 'blokecore' with a 'vintage twist' inspired by soccer and growing up in a small town outside of Manchester in the 90s. Think: rare original training jerseys from the early '90s.
There are also items from notable collaborations like Raf Simons x Colette and Louis Vuitton x Richard Prince. As well as Dries van Noten, Issey Miyake, Prada and Rick Owens, which you may recognize from Schitt's Creek because Dan Levy wore a lot of his pieces as David Rose.
