Last week the 2009 Juno Award nominations were announced and two of my favourite Vancouver chanteuses were nominated. It also turns out that these two leading ladies have Vancouver gigs coming up in March. So check out the links to their music, cross your fingers for Juno Award wins for them and most definitely - go check out their live shows!

Artist: Zaki Ibrahim - Juno Award Nominee for Best R&B Soul Recording of the Year

Album: Eclectica (Episodes in Purple)

Tour: Check her out March 19 at The Biltmore - Listen to music  HERE

Side Notes - Keep your eyes out for a new music video for Zaki in 2009. She has one in the works for her song "Grow". Technically she is based out of Toronto now, but she was raised and got her start both in Vancity and South Africa.

Artist: Ndidi Onukwulu - Juno Award Nominee for Best Solo Roots and Traditional Album of the Year

Album: The Contradictor

Tour: Check her out March 11 at The Biltmore - Listen to music  HERE

Side Notes - Ndidi recently played a singer named Ruth in the Canadian indie film "Nurse. Fighter. Boy" which is in theatres now. She also recently signed a deal with indie label Naive in Paris, France.

Of course, these are just two of my picks. There are other amazing Canadian (and Vancouver based) artists nominated as well, proving that our homegrown talents are nothing short of amazing. For a full list of nominees, visit the official website www.junoawards.ca or click HERE
