"Gemma" has a home! The 11-year-old husky was in the Coquitlam Animal Shelter's care for 366 days.

After an unusually long wait, this old gal finally has a new home.

"Gemma" has found a forever retirement home one year after the 11-year-old husky was placed into the care of the Coquitlam Animal Shelter.

A social media post by the city says she was adopted this past weekend "after 366 days."

"Thanks to everyone who shared her story and helped our special girl find her happy ending," the post reads from 10 a.m. this morning (Aug. 8).

Gemma was brought to the Tri-Cities' facility on Aug. 7, 2021, and her arrival was first published online on Aug. 26, when she was meant to be adopted at the same time as another dog.

According to Coquitlam city staff, she was in pretty good health and loved to play despite having "a bit of arthritis" and separation anxiety.

"During our visit she was very focused on attention, treats and kisses. I suspect she’ll be quite devoted to whomever rescues her," said Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart after meeting Gemma at the animal shelter on May 28, 2022.

Eventually, the nine-month mark came by and she still had yet to be adopted, so the City of Coquitlam posted another plea to potential adoptive owners of Gemma's availability.

And the post went viral, accumulating more than 1,200 shares on Facebook alone.

Gemma was said to be looking for a child and pet-free place to call home where someone could keep her company most of the time.
