Air quality advisory issued for Metro Vancouver through weekend due to smoke

"Today and tomorrow, additional smoke is expected to arrive from the south," the advisory warns.
Metro Vancouver air quality smoke
An air quality advisory has been issued for Metro Vancouver due to smoke from wildfires and a fire at a wood recycling facility.

An air quality advisory has been issued following "unhealthy" air quality indexes in some areas due to smoke

High concentrations of fine particulate matter (airborne solid or liquid droplets that can easily penetrate indoors) are expected to continue through the weekend, according to the advisory which has been issued for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

"Wildfires burning southeast of Chilliwack and Hope, including two fires near Manning Park (Heather Lake) and Hope (Flood Falls Trail), are producing smoke that is impacting the region. Today and tomorrow, additional smoke is expected to arrive from the south, further degrading air quality," the advisory reads.

An early morning fire at a wood recycling facility near Fraser River is producing a signficant amount of smoke as well, impacting Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Surrey, and Coquitlam.

The advisory recommends to postpone or reduce outdoor physical activity while concentrations of fine particulate matter are high, especially for individuals with underlying conditions, respiratory infections, children, and pregnant women.

Visiting indoor spaces with air conditioning, such as community centres, libraries, and malls, or installing a portable HEPA air cleaner in your home can provide relief from air pollution and heat.
