A photo of Christopher Raymond Hartl is being released by RCMP in effort to seek additional witnesses in his shooting on Friday.

Quick work by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and the Surrey RCMP led to an arrest being made and charges laid the day after a man was shot and killed.

Surrey RCMP responded to a call of a 48-year old man who was shot inside a residence at the 12600-block of 97 Avenue on Friday at around 2:27 p.m.

The victim, Christopher Raymond Hartl, was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

"It is believed that the shooting is isolated and not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict. Information acquired at the scene led investigators to another residence in Surrey," RCMP shared in their press release.

During the investigation, IHIT collaborated with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.

While IHIT’s Investigative Support Unit coordinated interviews, Crime Scene investigators searched both scenes and collected evidence.

On Saturday, a count of second degree murder against 40-year old Darren Ellis Scott was approved by the BC Prosecution Service.

“We wish to thank the quick actions of all our policing partners,” Sergeant David Lee of IHIT stated. “Even though there are charges, we will still be collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses.”

Police stated they are sharing the photo of Hartl in an effort to seek additional witnesses.
