UPDATED: BC Ferries cancels early morning sailings between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove

First round trip on September 9 did not run due to crew availability

Due to crew availability on Malaspina Sky, BC Ferries cancelled the following early morning sailings between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove terminals on September 9:

5:30 am departing Saltery Bay
6:35 am departing Earls Cove

On its website at 5:19 am, BC Ferries stated that crewing teams were working hard to source replacements, but more sailings were at risk of cancellation as well.

At 7 am, the company announced that the crewing availabilty issued had been resolved and the following sailings are now expected to sail as scheduled:

7:30 am departing Saltery Bay
8:25 am departing Earls Cove

9:25 am departing Saltery Bay
10:35 am departing Earls Cove

11:45 am departing Saltery Bay
12:55 pm departing Earls Cove

“We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations,” stated BC Ferries. “The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew. If circumstances change and replacement crew become available, we will notify customers immediately.”
