Vancouver police are investigating after gun shots were fired and bear spray was deployed in the Downtown Eastside on Oct. 11, 2022.

Vancouver police are investigating after receiving reports of a man firing a gun and using bear spray in the Downtown Eastside this morning (Oct. 11).

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) received calls just before 11 a.m. about a man firing a gun while standing at East Hastings and Columbia streets. He then ran from the area. Witnesses also reported bear spray had been used around the same time.

“Officers were at the scene within minutes but were not able to find a victim,” says Cst. Jason Doucette in a press release. “This is a heavily populated area and we are concerned someone may have been hit. We encourage anyone who may have been injured to seek medical help, and to report the incident to police.”

“Our officers located evidence to confirm shots were fired, and continue to search the area for suspect and potential victims,” adds Doucette.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD at 604-717-3321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
