Science Expo 2022: Science-loving students in grades 4 to 12 are invited to share their experiments and compete for prizes at Coquitlam Public Library’s Science Expo. Open to students in the Tri-Cities, including Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, and Belcarra. Saturday, May 7 at the City Centre branch. Register at coqlibrary.ca/science-expo.

Close-Up Film Festival: Celebrate the cinema of Iran with this must-see selection of contemporary short films on a range of fascinating themes. Each filmmaker will present their work and be available for a question and answer period. Films are in Farsi with English subtitles, and may not be suitable for younger viewers. Tech Toys Expo: Explore Coquitlam Public Library’s borrowable technology during an expo at the City Centre branch! Discover Sphero robots, Ozobots, Makey Makey kits, binoculars, Immersive Reality books, and more, with the help of staff and teen volunteers. All ages are welcome. No registration required. Introduction to Minecraft for Kids (8-10)

Thursdays, March 3 & 10, from 4-5 pm.

Play Minecraft at the Library! Come explore, build, learn, mine, and - you guessed it – craft with other kids on the Library’s server. We will have challenges and activities to complete as a team and some time to get lost in our block world! All you need to join is a computer and a copy of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, no previous experience needed!

Spring Break: Scratch Coding for Beginners (8-12)

Friday, March 18, from 2-3:30 pm.

Learn the basics of coding by using Scratch, a block-based programming language. We'll explore together what coding is, how to navigate the Scratch interface, and how to create a simple animation in Scratch.

Spring Break: Making Comics with Drew Shannon (13-18)

Wednesday, March 23, from 7-8 pm.

Learn how to make your own graphic novel or comic with the writer and illustrator of "The Montague Twins", Drew Shannon. In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to make a graphic novel and then work on making your own short comic. Some art supplies will be provided to participants - pick-up after March 10th.
