Calgary burger chain, Toronto tea bar opening first locations in Vancouver

The brands will join the ranks of several fast-casual food spots in the new development.

As the Renfrew Village development at 10th and Renfrew nears completion, a variety of quick-service food chains are already serving customers, with more set to open.

Signs are up for Calgary's Boardwalk Burgers at Renfrew near Broadway. Launched in 1981, it offers a classic burger shop menu with fries, milkshakes, and a selection of beef, chicken and veggie burgers. Boardwalk Burgers already has 25 locations nationwide; the closest to Vancouver are in the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

"We’ve brought the spirit of Ocean City’s Boardwalk to you," reads the Boardwalk website.

Next door to Boardwalk are signs for Toronto's M Cha Bar.

"We specialize in handcrafted drinks and fresh teas that are brewed from loose leaf and espresso tea machines," reads their website.

The tea-based drinks include matcha, bubble tea, and milk teas, alongside juices and fresh-brewed teas. Bubble waffles are also on the menu.

Joining the two newcomers to Vancouver on the 2500 block of Renfrew Street is Vancouver's Pokerrito. This will be the local chain's 11th location; the new restaurant is expected to open this winter, according to the Pokerrito website.

Already open in the neighbouring Renfrew Village building (on the 2600 block near Renfrew and East 10th Avenue) are the Canadian-Mexican chain Quesada, a new Trees coffee shop, another A&W, and a Firehouse Subs.
