Multi-vehicle crash causes power outage in Vancouver

Crews are currently on site working to restore power.

A multi-vehicle collision in Vancouver left over a thousand BC Hydro customers without power on Tuesday morning (May 28).

BC Hydro shared an outage map on X/Twitter, just after 9:30 a.m. that covered an area stretching from north of 13th Avenue, south of 6th Avenue, west of Laurel Street, and east of Granville Street (see slide two).

Power was off in the area affecting 1,594 customers since just after 9 a.m. for several hours.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Captain Matthew Trudeau told V.I.A. that crews responded to the 800 Block of West 12th at 9:11 a.m. for a four-car motor vehicle incident.

One person sustained minor injuries and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) were on scene to assist.

BCEHS Public Information Officer Rachelle Bown told V.I.A. that an ambulance with advanced care paramedics and one with primary care paramedics attended the scene.

"Paramedics assessed patients on scene, but they did not require transport to hospital,” she said.

VPD Const. Courtney Park told V.I.A. that the accident cleared and BC Hydro crews restored power.
