A couple years ago, while on the Ellen Show, comedian Adam Sandler tossed out a suggestion.
"If there are any other Jewish people out there who want to write a new one, that'd be great," he told Ellen DeGeneres, the crowd and the world.
Since then a couple people have, and that now includes Vancouver singer-songwriter Haley K Turner. In fact, it's more like one and a half; she's got Intangible Things (A Hanukkah Song), and a short parody song about writing a new Hanukkah song in honour of Sandler's work.
On social media she's even started a campaign to let Sandler know the song exists, fulfilling his request. She even put out a video skit referencing Sandler's film Happy Gilmore as part of the effort. She also agrees with Sandler there's a lack of mainstream Hanukkah music out there.
"There are very few mainstream Hanukkah songs in this world but I released one last Wednesday & you can get it for FREE today! Clearly there is no demand for #Chanukah #Hanukkah #Hanukah music so I'm giving it away!" she writes on Twitter.
