Planning for the new Railway Bike Park is underway and the City of Richmond is asking residents to share their thoughts on its design.
The city has launched a public consultation which will continue until March 28. The feedback will be used to determine the bike park’s final design, including a variety of bike skill features.
According to the city, the bike park – at Railway and Granville avenues next to the Railway Greenway – will be a place where entry- and novice-level riders can take their “first step” into mountain biking and work on developing their skills.
The proposed site will include, for example, pump track and wood and rock bike skill features.
“Where parents are looking to keep kids busy with outdoor activities, and youth may want to try something new, the construction of this unique recreational park could not come sooner. It will be a place for learning new skills, getting fit and spending time outdoors,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie in a statement.
After mastering the planned Railway Bike Park, riders can move on to the more advanced Terrain Park at Garden City Park, which opened in 2014.
To take part in designing the Railway Bike Park, residents can visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca until Sunday, March 28, to learn about the concepts for the park, share ideas and comments via a virtual ideas board and complete an online survey.
There will also be a virtual open house on Wednesday, March 10 to talk with Parks Planning staff and representatives from Hoots Ltd., the bike park’s design and construction consultant team. To request a link to the virtual open house, email parks@richmond.ca by Monday, March 8.
