It's book award season again.

If you published a book in 2019 or 2020 and it's about Vancouver you may want to enter it in the city's Book Awards.

The book doesn't have to have been written in Vancouver, but it does need to "reflect Vancouver’s unique character, rich diversity, culture, history and residents" according to a press release from the City of Vancouver. Winners will be awarded $3,000 and, if all goes as planned, a gala will be held in the fall at the city's central library.

This year there'll be more going on, as the 2020 and 2021 awards are, you know, awarded.

Books need to show excellence in one of four categories: content, illustration, design, or format and "contribute significantly to an appreciation and understanding" of Vancouver's history, unique character, resident's achievements, or diversity and culture.

Books can be fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children's books, or drama. Reissues, textbooks, and previously submitted works are not eligible.

To submit a book, publishers or authors need to enter on the city's website. A $20 entry fee is required, along with at least four copies of the book. If selected as a finalist five more books are needed.
