An SUV allegedly drove through a window at JTL Chicken World in Coquitlam on June 14, 2022.

A Korean fried chicken restaurant in Coquitlam has temporarily closed after a vehicle drove through its plate glass window on Tuesday (June 14).

The owners of JTL Chicken World alerted their customers of the news on social media.

The damage appears to be substantial, according to photos taken at the scene that have circulated online.

The Tri-City News reached out to the restaurant to confirm the information and a recorded message claims an SUV drove through the front window at about 10 a.m. yesterday.

The Austin Heights neighbourhood establishment (1104 Austin Ave.) is now closed until further notice to repair, what the owners call, "extensive damage."

No one was reportedly hurt in the incident.

A Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson has confirmed that a BMW X5 accidentally drove through the window after pressing the gas pedal instead of the brake.

"It wasn’t intentional or the result of another collision, just a single car collision," said Cpl. Paige Kuz.

However, the driver was given a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.

The vehicle sustained front end damage and had to be towed, Kuz said.

JTL Chicken World has also posted a temporary closure notice on its website.

This is the third Tri-City restaurant in three weeks to have been closed due to an accident.

In Coquitlam, Nubo Grill and Tapas (102-100 Schoolhouse St.) closed after an electrical fire on June 1.

The Boathouse at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody also closed after a kitchen fire on May 26.
