Fraser Health has expanded an existing COVID-19 public exposure warning for a Metro Vancouver hookah lounge.

The business, called Hookah Lounge, is located at 10609 King George Hwy in Surrey.

The initial warning, issued August 5, applied to select hours of July 31 through August 2, however the potential public exposure periods now include a handful of additional days in August.

If you visited the Hookah Lounge at the times of possible exposure, it does not mean you will develop COVID-19, notes Fraser Health. The possible exposures are believed to be low risk but, out of an abundance of caution, Public Health asks anyone who may have visited this location on these specified dates and times to monitor themselves for symptoms:

  • July 31-Aug. 1: 11:59 p.m. July 31 to 4 a.m. Aug. 1
  • Aug. 1-2: 11:59 p.m. Aug. 1 to 5 a.m. Aug. 2
  • Aug. 7-8: 11:59 p.m. Aug. 7 to 4 a.m. Aug. 8
  • Aug. 8-9: 11:59 p.m. Aug. 8 to 4 a.m. Aug. 9

There is no known risk to anyone who attended the Hookah Lounge outside of the specified dates and times. If people remain healthy and do not develop symptoms, there is no need to self-isolate and people can continue with their usual daily activities.

If you develop any symptoms of COVID-19, please seek testing and then self-isolate, adds Fraser Health.

If you have been identified as a COVID-19 case or close contact, be assured that Fraser Health’s public health team will contact you directly and provide further instruction.

Currently, Fraser Health's potential public exposures list includes four businesses on specified dates and times: The Hookah Lounge in Surrey; an event at Royals Beauty in Surrey; The Taphouse Coquitlam; and Charlie Hamiltons Pub in Coquitlam. Each B.C. health authority lists public exposure warnings online; all of the province's public exposures can be accessed via the BC CDC site.

There have now been 4,594 confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after health officials announced 236 new cases Monday.
