A family dog is missing after being swept over a waterfall on Saturday afternoon during a visit to Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver.

Maya, a nine-year-old golden retriever, was playing in the water not far from the suspension bridge when she was taken over a waterfall by the current.

The District of North Vancouver (DNV)  Firefighters Association posted a photo to Twitter that shows firefighters conducting a high-angle rope rescue over a waterfall in the canyon Saturday, but Maya has yet to be found.

According to a Facebook post, the pup is microchipped and a strong swimmer.

DNV Fire Rescue Services ask anyone hiking in Lynn Canyon to keep an eye out for Maya, and to call 604-543-6700 to report any sightings.
