Vancouver has been known to line up for shoe releases in its retail past, but in the COVID-19 crisis, not only will we not be physically lining up for a pair of kicks, but also the shoes themselves are a product of our strange times.

The Dr. Henry shoe by John Fluevog, which was created by the Vancouver-based designer to honour and in partnership with B.C. Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, is one of the most-coveted items hitting the market.

Here's what you need to know if you hope to get your hands on a pair of these very cool shoes.

  • The presale begins Thursday, April 23 at 4 p.m. (Vancouver time) and is online only
  • The shoes retail for $339 CDN. That's US$299, 269€, and AU$459
  • 100% of the profits from the sale of this shoe will support Food Banks BC
  • About 200 pairs will be made in the limited run
  • Customers are limited to ONE pair
  • The Dr. Henry is a two-toned pink shoe with bold stitching accents and a strap, and features her well-known words stamped on it: "be kind, be calm, and be safe."
  • The Dr. Henry is available in sizes 5-12
  • The fit of the Dr. Henry is described as follows by Fluevog.com: "Part of our Operetta Family of shoes, The Dr. Henry fits true to size and will fit an average-width foot nicely. Consider sizing up half a size if you have longer toes or a wider foot."
  • Shoes could be delivered as soon as late summer, however patience is requested as there are some uncertainties given the current market

We do also know that while the shoe has devoted Fluevog-er Dr. Henry's approval, we can only assume that one of those 200 or so pairs will end up on her feet. Let's just hope that by the time the shoes are in production we here in B.C. aren't needing to see her - and her footwear - daily for COVID-19 press conferences.
