A Burnaby traffic stop earlier this month led to the seizure of drugs, cash and the vehicle itself, according to police.

On June 11, just before 9 p.m., a Burnaby RCMP officer patrolling in the area of the Royal Oak Skytrain station stopped a vehicle known to be associated with drug trafficking, according to a police press release.

The 42-year-old female driver was asked to exit the vehicle, along with the 49-year old male passenger.

The woman was confirmed to be driving while prohibited and arrested for that offence, police said.

The officer then located and seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s possession.

A search of the vehicle turned up more meth, a container of suspected fentanyl, two baggies of suspected cocaine, prescription drugs in someone else’s name, drug paraphernalia, several hundred dollars in cash, three stolen licence plates and a cell phone.

The suspect’s vehicle was also seized and impounded.

The woman now faces charges of driving while prohibited and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

“The officer used his experience in Burnaby and relied on his training to get this driver and these drugs off our streets,” spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release. “We’re aware of the harm that these drugs can cause in our city, and our officers will continue to conduct enforcement on those who are looking to deal drugs in our community.”
