Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement regarding snow in Vancouver this weekend.

The alert for Metro Vancouver warns locals up to 5 cm will fall Saturday night and Sunday morning.

"A ridge of high pressure over BC will give mainly clear skies and cool conditions until late Saturday. A low pressure system will move southward along the coast bringing cloud to the area Saturday afternoon. Snow is forecast to begin Saturday night and continue into Sunday," states the federal agency.

Sunday afternoon will likely see rain as well in some areas.

While the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast will get up to 5 cm, sections of Vancouver Island could see up to 15 cm over the same period.
