Metro Vancouver gas prices are through the roof and there are few bargains to be had in Port Coquitlam.

But if you're prepared to line up for gas at Costco on Ottawa Street in PoCo you might get a better deal than elsewhere, according to Gasbuddy.com

At $1.68.9 per litre of gas, Costco appears to be the cheapest fuel so far in the city.

Other gas stations are closer to the $1.80 per litre mark seen around Metro Vancouver this week.

Here's the latest from Gasbuddy.com:

  • Esso at 2090 Lougheed Hwy has regular gas at $1.75.9 per litre
  • Shell at 1190 Pitt River Rd has regular gas at $1.80.9 per litre
  • Chevron at 2525 Shaughnessy St. also has regular gas at $1.80.9 per litre.

Metro Vancouver gas prices reached an all-time record high this past weekend.

On Sunday (Feb. 13), several outlets in the region were selling gas for 180.9 cents per litre, which broke the previous record of 176.9 cents set on Feb. 6.

Dan McTeague, the president of Canadians for Affordable Energy (and formerly of GasBuddy.com), predicted that gas prices would reach 179.9 by Sunday, and increase further with a federal carbon tax expected to rise in April.

McTeague has told other media outlets that gas prices could go as high as $2 per litre.

Prices have been rising since early February, owing to a combination of increased demand and higher oil prices, fuelled in part by Russia/Ukraine tensions.
