Firefighters make quick work of very visible fire at Vancouver restaurant

The restaurant was open again less than 24 hours later.

A restaurant in Mt. Pleasant is already open again after a very visible fire earlier this weekend.

Vancouver firefighters received several calls about a fire on April 15 around 6:30 p.m. according to Asst. Chief Ken Gemmill when flames and black smoke were reported at a restaurant, Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant, on Main Street at West 23 Avenue.

Sun Sui Wah was open when the fire started, and diners had to evacuate the building.

Firefighters were able to get to the scene quickly, Gemmill says, knocking down the blaze before it was able to do much damage.

"The fire never got into the structure," he explains. "It originated on the back deck."

The fire stayed on the deck, he adds, which was being used mostly for storage.

No one was injured in the incident. The cause is still being investigated.

While the back deck still showed the damage caused by the fire on Sunday, April 16, the Sun Sui Wah was open for lunch.
