Surrey firefighters quickly responded to a brush fire near a SkyTrain Station late Thursday (Aug. 19) morning.

Surrey Fire Service Assistant Chief of Operations Steve Serbic told Vancouver Is Awesome that dispatch received a report of a fire around 10:54 a.m. and crew arrived at the scene a few minutes later.

"There were reports of a large boom and a large column of black smoke," he said. "Crew said there was no structure involved. It was just brush and garbage."

The fire crew did not comment on the large boom and do not know how the fire was started, added Serbic. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

"We have a lot of fires in the city that start in the brush, especially where people are living," he noted. "It's not uncommon for them to get out of control."

Metro Vancouver Transit Police shared a video of the brush fire near Scott Road SkyTrain Station on Twitter.
