In Vancouver, fireworks are not allowed unless it's a permitted event with a certified firework technician with federal certification.

While many people think of Halloween and fireworks as a classic combo, in Vancouver it's prohibited.

The Vancouver fire department is reminding people that the little explosives aren't allowed.

"This is the third year that the selling, purchasing and discharging of fireworks is prohibited," states Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) in a press release. "If you see fireworks sold or discharged in the city, please call 311, and always report any fires to 911."

The city's website notes that while fireworks may be seen at some events, they're no longer allowed for the general public.

Unpermitted fireworks were last allowed for Vancouver residents on Halloween 2020. The ban went into effect the following day.

"While fireworks may continue at community events such as Lunar New Year, Diwali, Celebration of Lights, and Canada Day, they may only be discharged by a certified firework technician," states the city's website.

Technicians need federal certification and a permit from VFRS.

Sparklers, Christmas crackers and caps for toy guns are still allowed in Vancouver.

Some parts of Metro Vancouver do allow Halloween fireworks, with regulations, like Burnaby.
