FortisBC crews are completing repairs that caused a gas leak which affected 300 homes in Tsawwassen on Tuesday.

Damage to a natural gas line had some Tsawwassen residents with no service on Tuesday, FortisBC said.

About 300 homes were affected by “external party damage,” in the Tsawwassen Drive North area, extending northeast to Falcon Way.

Repairs were expected to be done late Tuesday afternoon with crews then visiting each home to relight appliances.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday however, a FortisBC service alert said there were still around 120 customers without gas service.

“Crews completed repairs to our system earlier this afternoon. Technicians will continue working this evening to restore service to the remaining customers,” FortisBC said.

Once repairs are finished, crews were to visit each home or business to turn on the gas and relight appliances.

If customers were not home, they can contact the emergency number at 1-877-711-8877 to schedule a relight.

The company reminded the community about the importance of safe digging practices and encouraged everyone to click or call BC 1 Call before doing any digging, saying that 90 per cent of gas line breaks are preventable.
