Halloween is saved: Gigantic East Van candy slide offers two storeys of social distance

Kids in Mount Pleasant who plan on trick-or-treating this year have good reason to celebrate.

Instead of calling it quits amid a pandemic – one neighbour has created a nearly two-storey candy chute to give out goodies from a safe social distance.

The homeowner will now be able to carry on the beloved Halloween tradition of giving out free candy to minors from their second-storey window.

Responses to the local invention ranged from commendations to expressing doubt about whether it will get the job done.

Largely positive online response

Other B.C. CDC-approved ways to hand out candy include, using tongs to dispense goodies or leaving a tray of individually-wrapped candy for kids to choose from.

The public health agency is also encouraging trick-or-treaters to stay close to home in small groups this year.
