An eastbound vehicle caught fire on the Burnaby Lake stretch of Highway 1 Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the Burnaby Lake stretch of Highway 1 for a vehicle burning by the side of the road Thursday morning.

Just before 8 a.m., fire crews were called to the eastbound lanes just before the Gaglardi exit, according to the Burnaby Fire Department.

Two trucks were deployed to deal with the single-vehicle fire, the department told the NOW.

Drive BC images showed several eastbound lanes blocked.

Drive BC reported the blaze had reduced the highway down to two lanes eastbound and slowed westbound traffic due to the visual distraction.

“Expect heavy congestion and delays in the area,” stated a Drive BC post on social media.
