In solidarity with the Lights for Liberty vigils being organized across the U.S., the event will take place at the Vancouver Art Gallery and protest the horror of the, "concentration camp system for migrants and refugees" at the United States border. The movement has events scheduled on five continents and in nearly 600 locations worldwide for Friday night.
"On Friday July 12, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, will bring thousands of people to locations worldwide as well as to detention camps across [the United States], into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. A silent sea of candles will light up the nation," states the organizers.
In addition, the organizers urge Canadian politicians to take a stand against the, "blatantly inhumane treatment inflected upon refugees at the hands of the United States." They also request the immediate release of 110 children currently held at Canadian Detention Centres across the nation.
There will be speakers from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. followed by the lighting of candles from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Following this the group will walk to the Trump Tower.
