A man carjacked a woman in one of Vancouver's busiest intersections at Cambie and Broadway Sunday, Feb. 27.

A man has been arrested after a brazen carjacking this weekend.

Around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 a 58-year-old woman stopped for a red light at Cambie Street and Broadway. While waiting for the light to change a man got into her vehicle on the passenger side and tried to drag her out of the car, according to police.

A bystander who saw what was going on tried to intervene but was assaulted himself.

"The victim was then dragged out of the vehicle by the suspect and left in the middle of the road while the suspect drove off in the victim’s car," police tell Vancouver Is Awesome in an email.

Bystanders came to the aid of the woman and police were called.

"While some officers tended to the victim, others patrolled the city in search of the stolen car," the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) states in a press release.

Later Sunday police were able to locate the suspect.

"Shortly before 10 a.m., a VPD officer located the suspect and the car in Strathcona," state the VPD. "The suspect was arrested and taken to jail."

According to police Chad Ayukawa, 48, is now facing charges related to robbery, assault, and driving offences.
