Man charged in connection to stabbing outside New West strip club

A man has been charged in connection to stabbing outside the Paramount Gentlemen’s Club last summer.

About 2 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2021, the New Westminster Police Department received a report of a stabbing at the strip club on Columbia Street. The victim was transported to hospital, where he received care for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Following several months of investigation and review of evidence, Crown counsel has approved charges in connection to the case. Prakash Kisokumar has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.

“We’d like to thank the major crime unit and the forensic identification unit for their excellent work in this investigation,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “This was a disturbing incident and we recognize it caused some trepidation for those in the neighbourhood.”

At the time of the incident, the NWPD stated that officers located two suspects a short distance away, after a short foot pursuit.
