A Richmond man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his cousin at a wedding reception almost three years ago.
Aneil Sanghera admitted causing the April 2017 death of 41-year-old Pardeep “Terry” Dulay at the wedding in the Fraserview Hall in south Vancouver.
Sanghera appeared at the BC Supreme Court in Vancouver on Monday, where his trial was due to start.
Before he was found dead by wedding guests, Dulay had been involved in a physical altercation, according to a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) report at the time.
The VPD initially believed the victim had died of a heart attack.
However, a video of the altercation surfaced and, in June 2017, charges were laid against Sanghera.
Media reports indicate that the small courtroom was packed on Monday with members of the accused and the victim’s family, causing tensions to rise between the two parties.
And, after Sanghera entered his plea, some of them had to be separated by sheriff officers, both inside and outside the courtroom as angry words were exchanged.
Sanghera will next again on Jan. 22 to set a date for sentencing and will remain on bail until then.
