Vancouver police say an individual who refused to wear a face mask allegedly attacked his neighbour with a knife in their apartment elevator.

Vancouver police say an individual who refused to wear a face mask allegedly attacked his neighbour with a knife in their apartment elevator.

On Saturday (Jan. 8) afternoon, a man and his neighbour got in an argument in the hallway of their Pendrell Street apartment in the West End, according to a news release. Police received several 911 calls about the disagreement, which they believe escalated to violence after the 48-year-old victim confronted the suspect for not wearing a mask.

The 56-year-old suspect then allegedly threatened and assaulted the victim, who did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

"From the downtown core to the South Slope, and from East Van to the west side, VPD officers were called on to investigate multiple violent crimes," says VPD Sgt. Steve Addison.

"These included commercial robberies, stranger assaults, road rages, and several stabbings."

The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
