Police have two people in custody after two incidents along Highway 99 in Surrey last night.

The first incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. along the 13500 block of Highway 99. Police received reports of two men fighting and shots fired. When they got there they found a man in serious condition with a gunshot wound. The wounded man was taken to hospital and the other man was arrested, according to a release.

The car and a gun have been seized.

Both men know each other and are known to police and while likely connected to the drug trade Surrey RCMP say the incident is not "related to the Lower Mainland Gang conflict."

While police were investigating the shooting they set up roadblocks along Highway 99 and at the onramp from Highway 91.

At 10:18 p.m. last night a car failed to negotiate the roadblock and hit a police car.

"The officer and the driver of the civilian vehicle received non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the civilian vehicle was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle," state the Surrey RCMP.

The driver has since been released and the investigation is ongoing.
